Scholars and academicians have been urged to be good role models to students in their former schools.
Ugenya Sub-County Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Director, Bernard Orwasa said that when such professionals support the institutions they went through, they motivate current learners to walk in their footsteps.
He said this during the inauguration of the Board of Management (BoM) at St. Charles Humwend Secondary School within his area of jurisdiction, recently.
Prof. Peter Wanyande, a Political Science professor in the University of Nairobi, was elected the BoM Chairman.
“I noted with satisfaction that Prof. Wanyande has immensely contributed to the development of the school,” Orwasa wrote in ScholarMedia Digital, a WhatsApp group that brings together various Kenyan professionals.
“To attest this fact, he has sponsored the construction of a school library that has been named after him,” he added.
He also noted that the same board has other prominent professionals.
One of them is Dr. John Oduor Ondiege of Kenyatta National Hospital, who is planning for a free medical camp for the community.
“During the medical camp, villagers will get medical examination and treatment for various ailments for free,” Orwasa said.
“They will also get COVID-19 vaccination, all for free,” the official added.
He said this was a sure way of giving back to the community, which should be emulated by other professionals across the country.
