The Joyride podcast is a captivating podcast hosted by the dynamic duo of Ben Cyco and Wanjiru Njiru, two celebrated Kenyan content creators who have been on a remarkable journey.
Ben and Wanjiru have graced the airwaves for the past two years with their genuine conversations and infectious energy.
As hosts and a married couple, their unique blend of heartfelt storytelling, professional insights, and personal experiences creates an uplifting and relatable space for listeners from all walks of life.
What sets Joyride apart is the engaging topics they tackle and the genuine warmth and chemistry between the hosts.
Their harmonious dynamic radiates through the speakers, making you feel like you’re sitting with close friends, sharing stories and basking in the joy of connection.
Where it all began
There was a growing popularity of lifestyle and homemaking videos, but they knew they wanted to fill a unique gap distinctively. And thus, the idea of ‘joyride’ was born.
They saw a podcast as a perfect platform to share their perspectives on relationships, friendships, faith, life, and everything.
They understood that while countless channels were catering to lifestyle content, there was room for a podcast that offered something different—a space that entertained and fostered meaningful conversations.
Beyond the insightful and inspiring conversations, ‘joyride’ celebrates love.
As a married couple, Ben and Wanjiru share their lessons and experiences learned along their journey, offering a glimpse into their journey into the dynamics of a partnership built on support, respect, and trust.
Having traversed the nation with their dedication, they have left a mark, gracing over ten universities in Nairobi with their workshops and experiences and inking awe-inspiring collaborations.
Notably, their partnership with esteemed companies like ALX Africa has propelled their mission, enriching the lives of countless listeners.
When their inaugural episode graced the YouTube platform, its magnetic charm captivated viewers accumulating an astounding 100,000 views and amassing 10,000 subscribers within the first week alone.
Ben, a renowned gospel artist, and his wife Wanjiru, a talented content creator and the proud owner of the fashion brand Maua, felt a calling to venture into the world of podcasts.
Ben has own podcast, the Cyco Podcast.
The Joyride format
“We’ve always shared conversations, Ben and I, literally about everything, and I think most of the time we’re talking about what’s happening in the news and about therapy. We thought it was a good idea to create a space for other people and we could share our thoughts and that’s how the Joyride came about,” Wanjiru shares.
The essence of Joyride was to create a community where everyone felt like an integral part of the podcast.
The podcast operates excitingly and uniquely. Each episode revolves around a specific topic, carefully chosen to spark thought-provoking and engaging discussions.
But here’s the twist: the hosts have yet to learn what questions they’ll be answering. Compellingly and spontaneously, they reach into
a jar filled with curated questions that align with the day’s topic.
The catch? Not even Ben and Wanjiru have yet to see these questions. This element of surprise adds a layer of authenticity to the podcast. The responses are raw, unfiltered, and genuine as they answer the questions on the spot.
Listeners glimpse their emotions and thoughts as they share the first thing that comes to mind. This unscripted approach created a relatability atmosphere and encouraged a deeper connection between the hosts and their audience.
Connecting beyond the waves
Recognizing the importance of forging deeper connections with their audience, Ben and Wanjiru go above and beyond the podcast format.
They understand that true community building involves face-to-face interactions, so they organize events to bring the joyride experience to life.
Having met during their time on campus, Ben and Wanjiru understood the value of creating a community they wished they had back then.
The joyride experience was born from this desire to provide something extraordinary for their listeners.
“I am truly living in my purpose, and I am grateful that I get to lead a fulfilling life of impacting lives,” Ben shares of the Kabarak University Experience.
This two-day program, often sponsored by prominent brands like Yellowcard and Dairyland, offers insightful discussions, live performances, and unforgettable moments.
On the first day of the event, the focus is on career, financial literacy, and content creation, among others.
They share their guidance, wisdom, and experiences and empower the participants.
The goal is to equip young minds with the tools to navigate life’s challenges and pursue their dreams.
The second day of the Joyride Experience is a culmination of anticipation and excitement.

Kabarak University stop
Last weekend, July 17 and 16, all roads led to their first-ever outside Nairobi experience at Kabarak University in Nakuru.
The Yellowcard sponsored the campus workshop on the 17th, which was all about financial literacy and opportunities.
They showed the attendees the cheapest, easiest, and safest way to store, sell and buy Bitcoin (BTC) and Tether (USDT) in Africa.
On the 18th, they made sure to touch on the topics of personal journeys, relationships, and friendships. The audience eagerly listened as they delved into the questions.
The audience was interactive as the questions were reverted to them, taking the conversation to past a monologue.
Joining them were their friends, Nyawira Gachugi and Moji Shortbaba, who are also a married couple. Nyawira, serving as the MC of the event, brought her vibrant energy and exceptional hosting skills, ensuring the event flowed seamlessly and smoothly.
Moji Shortbaba, a gifted gospel artist, graced the stage with an electrifying performance, leaving the audience in awe.
As the event drew to a close, Ben took to the stage to perform his music, captivating the crowd with his soulful melodies and passionate delivery.
Dairyland did a great job giving treats, including chocolates, to anyone who answered questions or contributed, and yogurt to every attendee.
Joyride is more than just a podcast.
It is a testament to the power of young individuals taking up space and using their voices to uplift and inspire others.
Ben and Wanjiru have created a platform that resonates deeply with their audience with their passion and dynamic approach.
They have cultivated a community where listeners feel seen, heard, and inspired to embrace every aspect of life.
As you, the reader, embark on your journey, may the Joyride podcast serve as a reminder that you are not alone.
The laughter echoed, and the lessons learned and experiences shared throughout each episode serve as guiding lights, illuminating the path toward personal growth, meaningful connections, and a greater appreciation for the beauty of existence.
Remember, as Wanjiru always says, “It always gets better!”
