With vibrant colors, compelling speeches, and an unmissable air of anticipation, Kaimosi Friends University (KAFU) heralded the commencement of its 2025/2026 academic year through a spirited matriculation ceremony held on September 5, 2025, at the university’s hockey pitch.
Over 2,500 first-year students, among them 2,352 already enrolled with final figures expected to reach 2,587, took part in the rite of passage that welcomed them into the institution’s expanding fold.

A Journey Comes Full Circle
The ceremony’s emotional high point came as Principal Secretary Dr. Jane Imbunya, now at the helm of the State Department for Public Service and Human Capital Development, took the podium as chief guest. She shared a deeply personal story, tracing her own path from a lecturer at KAFU to its School of Education’s Dean, and now as a government principal secretary.
“If you remain disciplined, focused, and true to your calling, Kaimosi Friends University will transform you too,” she urged, her words a powerful reminder of the university’s ability to shape lives.

Visionary Leadership and Bold Ambitions
Opening the ceremony with a ceremonial procession and the national and university anthems, Vice Chancellor Prof. Peter Mwita reinforced a bold message to the freshmen: “This is a day of promise. Do not just seek certificates; seek solutions. Do not just dream; invent. Do not just chase jobs; chase impact.”
He unveiled a vision grounded in transformation: academic, infrastructural, and strategic. The university is on a rapid growth trajectory: from 235 students in 2014, to over 9,000 today, and growing.

Community Support and Shared Responsibility
Dr. Charles Gimose, MP for Hamisi Constituency, addressed the new cohort with words of motivation and solidarity. He pledged continued backing for KAFU’s development, including floodlights to boost campus safety.
“A safe student is a confident learner,” he affirmed during his address.
A Campus Alive with Culture and Creativity
Beyond formal addresses, the ceremony came alive through vivid cultural performances: dance, music, and drama that reflected KAFU’s commitment to holistic development. Prof. Mwita encouraged students to explore co-curricular activities, describing the university as “home for talent, creativity, and leadership.”
A Strategic Partnership Takes Root
Adding deeper resonance to the occasion, KAFU recently signed a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Scholar Media Group Africa (SMEGA). The collaboration, anchored on media visibility, research dissemination, and student empowerment, positions the university as a forward-looking hub for academic excellence.

A New Generation, a Renewed Mission
As the freshmen took their matriculation oath, Prof. Mwita left them with a stirring charge: “Carry yourselves with dignity, curiosity, and courage. Walk with purpose, serve with humility, and learn with passion. May you be the generation that plants trees under whose shade others will sit.”
From investment in world-class infrastructure to strategic media partnerships and rising enrolment figures, Kaimosi Friends University’s matriculation ceremony was not merely a welcome, it was a declaration of intent. Here, transformation is both promise and purpose. And for the Class of 2025/2026, this spring of knowledge is just the beginning.
