Expanding Visibility and Marketability

At the heart of the MoU is a drive to enhance the visibility and marketability of Kaimosi Friends University. The university has set its sights on becoming a more recognizable player in Kenya’s higher education sector and across Africa, particularly with the launch of its new Kobujoi Campus in Aldai, Nandi County.

The agreement ensures that SMEGA, through its media channels, including The Scholar Africa magazine, the Scholar Media Africa website, and its upcoming broadcast platforms will publicize KAFU’s programs, research milestones, and campus expansion efforts.

This collaboration is expected to help recruit a more diverse student body, including drawing international students to KAFU’s programs. SMEGA’s role will be to amplify the university’s brand, showcase its academic excellence, and highlight its contributions to national and continental development.

“This partnership is about amplifying KAFU’s voice and positioning it as a premier institution, not only in Kenya but across Africa,” said SMEGA’s CEO, Elijah Nyaanga. “We are committed to telling KAFU’s story, promoting its programs, and connecting it to students, researchers, and stakeholders globally.”

Building Stronger Research Collaboration

Another key pillar of the MoU is the commitment to future research collaboration. Both KAFU and SMEGA acknowledged the critical role of research in driving social, economic, and educational transformation.

While specific projects are yet to be defined, the agreement lays the groundwork for joint initiatives in areas such as:

  • Health sciences
  • Education innovation
  • Community development

KAFU pledged to provide institutional support for collaborative projects, including access to faculty expertise, research facilities, and channels for policy dialogue. SMEGA, leveraging its platform, will support the dissemination of research findings, enhance visibility through media coverage, and, where possible, contribute to mobilizing resources.

Both parties emphasized that these collaborations would actively involve faculty and students in workshops, joint publications, and knowledge-sharing forums, fostering a research culture that bridges academia, industry, and society.

Empowering Youth and Students

A standout feature of the MoU is its strong focus on youth and student empowerment. This aligns with SMEGA’s Scholar Empowerment Program (SMEP) and the soon-to-be-launched Scholar Global Academy (SGA).

The agreement promises to equip KAFU students with practical skills, industry exposure, and mentorship opportunities beyond the classroom.

Key empowerment initiatives include:

  • Mentorship programs: Pairing KAFU students with seasoned media and industry professionals under SMEGA’s networks.
  • Training workshops: Joint sessions on media literacy, digital communication, mental health, entrepreneurship, innovation, and leadership.
  • Industry linkages: Creating pathways for students to connect with professionals and organizations relevant to their career aspirations.
  • Empowerment activities: On-campus events and off-campus programs aimed at building confidence, creativity, and critical thinking.

“These initiatives speak directly to our vision of producing graduates who are not only academically qualified but also industry-ready and socially impactful,” said KAFU Vice Chancellor Prof. Mwita. “Through this partnership, our students will access practical learning opportunities that complement their classroom education.”

Shared Vision for Long-Term Growth

The MoU is a testament to the goodwill and shared growth vision of the two institutions. Both sides emphasized their openness to extend collaboration into cultural, social, and community spheres, ensuring that the partnership is not just transactional but transformative.

The tone of the signing underscored the strong commitment both parties share. Photos captured warm smiles, firm handshakes, and a genuine sense of optimism. Both institutions pledged unwavering support to one another, describing the partnership as a pact for progress and empowerment.

“This is not just an MoU; it is a blueprint for long-term collaboration,” Nyaanga affirmed. “It signals the beginning of a journey where media and academia converge to create lasting impact.”

Why This Partnership Matters

Kaimosi Friends University is among Kenya’s fastest-growing institutions of higher learning, known for its emphasis on holistic education and community engagement. Partnering with SMEGA, a continental media group committed to excellence, empowerment, and innovation, positions KAFU to achieve greater impact in line with Kenya’s Vision 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The collaboration is timely, coming at a period when African universities are seeking greater visibility, internationalization, and innovative ways to empower students to thrive in an increasingly competitive world.

As the ink dries on the agreement, both institutions are keen to roll out the first activities: mentorship programs, media coverage of KAFU’s academic milestones, and exploratory research dialogues.

A Pact for the Future

The KAFU–SMEGA MoU is more than just a formal document; it is a commitment to mutual growth, academic excellence, and youth empowerment.

As Prof. Peter Mwita and Elijah Nyaanga sealed the deal, they reflected a broader truth: that the future of education in Africa lies in collaboration, innovation, and strategic partnerships that bridge classrooms and the wider world.

With this pact, Kaimosi Friends University steps into a new era of visibility, relevance, and student empowerment; and Scholar Media Group Africa cements its role as a catalyst for change across Africa’s higher education landscape.
