Gitonga spoke this after a meeting with bar and pub owners on Monday, December 20.

“The safety of Kenyans is paramount and security agencies will leave nothing for a chance this festive season,” Gitonga warned.

He said that recently, most of the protocols have been abandoned.

“People should wear masks, sanitize, wash their hands and ensure that they adhere to social distancing.

These regulations have been put in place to stem the spread of the disease,” he said.

According to Gitonga, the security agencies have had a good working relations with bar owners and operators in the county.

A new variant of the virus, called omicron, was reported recently by the Ministry of Health.

Bar owners were asked to apply for permission to host Christmas and new year celebrations.

Gitonga said that they shall be making constant visits to the business premises to monitor compliance.

He added that they have beefed up security to tame anybody who may want to cause havoc.
