Egerton University will have a new Vice Chancellor (VC) soon.
The Public Service Commission (PSC) has already kicked off the interview process to find a replacement of Prof Rose Mwonya who retired in January 2021.
Whoever succeeds to rise to take the position will be the 6th vice chancellor of the university which is based in Njoro, Nakuru County.
The institution has been under the temporary leadership of Prof Isaac Kibwage as acting VC since the retirement of Prof Mwonya.
Prof Kibwage had previously served as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Planning and Development at the university.
PSC is on Tuesday 24th August 2021 scheduled to start interviewing seven candidates who were shortlisted from a pool of 12 who had applied for the university’s top job.
Among those scheduled to face the PSC panel are Karatina University’s Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Academics Prof Peninah Obudho who will be seeking to become Egerton’s second female Vice Chancellor.
Prof Alexander Kahi who previously served as the university’s Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of academics as well as the acting VC Prof Kibwage will also be interviewed.
Prof Prisca Tuitoek who is the Muranga University of Technology’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of Academics and Students’ Affairs and Prof Bockline Bebe who is the acting Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Research and Extension at the same university are also eying the coveted position.
Prof Benedict Mutua and Prof Douglas Shitanda who is the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration, Planning and Finance at Machakos University are also set to be interviewed.
According to PSC, each interviewee will be allocated one hour during the process.
After the interviews PSC will then forward the interview results to the university’s council which will in consultation with the Education Cabinet Secretary appoint the new VC.
The university has over 20,000 students and hundreds members of academic and non-academic staff.
