Leaders Hail Edinah Kangwana as a Rising Force in Transformational Leadership

In the heart of Kitutu Chache South, amid the commissioning of a state-of-the-art multi-purpose auditorium at Nyabururu Girls High School, the spotlight turned to a woman whose name has become synonymous with visionary leadership and relentless service—Edinah Nyaboke Kangwana, MBS. On March 29, 2025, as top leaders gathered for this historic occasion, their voices echoed a shared sentiment: Edinah is not just a leader; she is a force for transformative change.

The event was graced by an array of distinguished leaders, including the Cabinet Secretary for Education, Julius Ogamba, Solicitor General Shadrack Mose, Kisii County Women Representative Doris Aburi, Kisii County Senator Richard Onyonka, and area Member of Parliament (MP) Anthony Kibagendi among other esteemed leaders.

Hon. Kibagendi acknowledged the contribution of outstanding leaders driving transformative change in society. Among those he recognized was Edinah Nyaboke Kangwana, a former banker and the immediate former Kisii County Executive for Administration and Public Service.

He noted that there had been strong anticipation that Ms Kangwana would be appointed as a Principal Secretary in the latest government reorganization—a reflection of her distinguished track record, strategic leadership, and advocacy for gender equity from the Gusii region.

“Edinah Kangwana has consistently demonstrated exceptional leadership and commitment to public service,” Kibagendi stated. “She is a shining example of what it means to lead with purpose, especially as a woman from our region. While the PS appointment did not materialize this time, I have no doubt her time is coming. She represents the caliber of leaders Kenya needs moving forward.”

Edinah’s journey continues to inspire many, especially young women across the country who see in her a symbol of resilience, integrity, and progress. A Celebrated Career in Banking and Public Service

Edinah’s professional journey began in the banking sector, where she amassed over a decade of experience with institutions like Barclays and Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB). At KCB, she served as a Customer Service Consultant, Micro Banker, and Assistant Operations Manager, roles that honed her skills in financial management and customer relations.

Transitioning to public service, Edinah took on the role of Kisii County Executive Committee (CEC) Member for Trade and Industry. In this capacity, she was instrumental in fostering trade development linkages both nationally and internationally, bolstering the micro and SME sectors in Kisii County. Her efforts significantly contributed to the establishment of the Central Bank of Kenya cash collection center in Kisii, enhancing the region’s economic infrastructure.

Recognition and National Honors

Edinah’s dedication and impact have not gone unnoticed. In 2021, she was honored with the Moran of the Burning Spear (MBS) by President Uhuru Kenyatta, recognizing her outstanding service to the nation. The accolades continued in 2022 when she received the iChange Nations™ Distinguished Leadership Award, acknowledging her commitment to community development and transformational leadership. She was also conferred with the Heroes Award medal by President William Ruto, on October 20, 2023, during the Mashujaa Day celebrations.

Championing Gender Equality through GWILN

Beyond her professional roles, Edinah is a fervent advocate for gender equality and women’s leadership development. She founded the Gusii Women in Leadership Network (GWILN), a platform dedicated to nurturing women’s leadership in the Gusii region and beyond. Through GWILN, Edinah has organized events that provide women with opportunities to share experiences, learn, and mentor one another. During the 2025 International Women’s Day celebration, she emphasized the importance of mentorship, stating, “Let us be the giants for the young ones to stand on and achieve the future.”

Mentorship Initiatives Impacting Thousands

Edinah’s commitment to mentorship extends to the youth as well. Through her Role Modeling Initiative, she has reached over 12,000 students, offering guidance and inspiration. Collaborating with organizations like Arise Circle KE, Top Talent Agency, and Civility Tours and Travel, she has facilitated mentorship sessions across various schools, emphasizing the power of strategic partnerships in driving impactful change.

Leadership at Arise Circle KE

As the Founder and CEO of Arise Circle Kenya, a leadership and organizational development consultancy, Edinah has been instrumental in coaching professionals towards greatness. The organization focuses on raising authentic leaders and corporates in Kenya, Africa, and beyond. Through tailored executive leadership coaching, role modeling, and mentorship, Arise Circle KE addresses topics such as personal development, wellness, service, and leadership. In a recent Coffee Roundtable Conversation, Edinah highlighted the importance of self-care in leadership, stating, “You cannot serve or lead from an empty cup. Fill it and let it overflow so that you are serving from a point of abundance.”

Academic Contributions at University of Kabianga

In May 2024, Edinah was appointed as a Council Member at the University of Kabianga, where she chairs the Academic, Planning & Human Resource Committee. Her diverse skill set and commitment to education are expected to contribute significantly to the university’s growth and development.
