The chairman for Political Parties Liaison Committee (PPLC) Mr. Evans Misati has termed the wrangles and wars being witnessed in the Nyamira’s County Assembly as a shame to the Gusii community and a sign of immaturity among the leaders involved.
Addressing journalists in Nyamira town yesterday, Misati who unsuccessfully ran for the County’s gubernatorial seat in 2013 warned the Members of County Assembly (MCAs) that the electorate was closely watching the events taking place and that it will be too late if they let them match and lock up the assembly.
“I want to urge all Nyamira County residents, both young and the old to rise up to the occasion and protect our county from such leaders.
The leaders have engaged in personal interest issues and for the last four months, since governor Nyagarama died, we have not witnessed any tangible development and instead, they are fighting each other all for their personal gain. We must stand and condemn them, and show them the door come next year 2022,” said Misati.
Misati who is also the party leader of Progressive Party of Kenya (PPK) took a swipe at the Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Interior Dr. Fred Matiang’i for keeping quite while the county is being destroyed by egocentric leaders.
He asked the CS to act as the unifying factor and stand his ground to end the wrangles being witnessed between the county executive led by governor Amos Nyaribo and the assembly wing by Speaker Moffat Teya.
“I want to ask our elder brother and Gusii leader that his leadership has been put to test on how he will solve the Nyamira impasse. All eyes of Nyamira residents are looking at how you will display your leadership skills and end this stalemate that has rocked our county for four months now,” said Misati.
Misati urged the CS to quickly call for a dialogue meeting for all Nyamira leaders soonest to iron out issues bedeviling the county.
“Our elected leaders and politicians have taken sides and you are the only person we expect to be neutral and its high time you convened a meeting between these two factions and end the row before it spills,” he added.
Trouble started when the county assembly’s committee on selection chaired by Speaker Teya rejected the nomination of ex-West Mugirango Member of Parliament Dr. James Gesami over what they termed as failure to meet integrity minimums.
Governor Nyaribo, during the nomination, termed the ex-MP as a workaholic who would help him achieve the development agendas the late Nyagarama and him had promised the electorate in their 2017 re-election.
Political pundits say that the choice of Dr. Gesami would further sink the ambitions of those leaders who had eyed the county’s top seat as he (Gesami) is known to have had a performance track record achieved from his 10 year tenure as M.P for West Mugirango Constituency.
Among those eyeing to succeed Nyaribo in next year’s general elections are Borabu Constituency law maker Ben Momanyi, a youth Walter Chanua, North Mugirango, Kitutu Masaba Constituency ex-MPs Walter Nyambati, Timothy Bosire, Mwancha Okioma among others.
