- The proposed collaboration seeks to turn knowledge and youth empowerment initiatives into accessible stories and practical programmes that inform society, empower communities and contribute to Africa’s sustainable development.
Scholar Media Group Africa (SMEGAFRICA) is exploring a strategic partnership with the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) aimed at strengthening collaboration in education, media, youth empowerment, research and impactful storytelling.
The emerging partnership took shape during a courtesy call by Elijah Nyaanga Scholarman Snr, Group CEO of Scholar Media Africa, to Agnes Kalekye, Managing Director of KBC, at her office on August 10, 2026.
The engagement brought together two institutions with complementary strengths and opened conversations on how media can become an even more powerful platform for advancing knowledge, showcasing innovation and contributing to Africa’s development.
For SMEGAFRICA, the discussions represent an important step in its continued effort to build strategic partnerships that move beyond conventional media engagement to create meaningful platforms for education, knowledge dissemination and social and economic transformation.
The potential KBC-SMEGAFRICA partnership comes at a time when the media landscape is undergoing rapid transformation, driven by digital technologies, changing audience habits and the growing demand for credible, relevant and solutions-oriented content.
Bringing Print, Digital and Broadcast Media Together
SMEGAFRICA has established a distinctive media and knowledge platform anchored by The Scholar Africa, its rich monthly magazine featuring education, research, leadership, business, innovation, youth empowerment and development stories from across Africa.
Its online platform, www.scholarmedia.africa, further extends this content to digital audiences, providing a platform for timely news, features, expert perspectives, research-based stories and thought leadership.
Beyond publishing, SMEGAFRICA has also developed a growing conference and events platform that brings together scholars, educators, researchers, policymakers, business leaders, innovators, young people and other changemakers to exchange ideas and explore solutions to Africa’s development challenges.
These platforms provide a strong foundation for potential collaboration with KBC, whose broadcast infrastructure can offer an additional avenue for taking such conversations and stories to wider audiences through television, radio and other broadcast formats.
Speaking on the potential collaboration, Kalekye underscored the value of bringing different media platforms together.
“There is great value in bringing together the strengths of different media platforms. KBC brings extensive broadcast experience and reach, while SMEGAFRICA brings strong capabilities in print and online media. Together, these platforms can create greater opportunities for sharing knowledge, highlighting innovation and telling impactful African stories.”
The proposed partnership could therefore create a powerful cross-platform ecosystem where stories published in The Scholar Africa, articles appearing on Scholar Media Africa’s online platform, and conversations generated through SMEGAFRICA conferences and events could be amplified through KBC’s television and radio platforms.
Similarly, KBC’s broadcast content and public-interest conversations could receive additional exposure through SMEGAFRICA’s print, digital and event platforms.

Connecting Knowledge With Audiences
Discussions centred on the immense possibilities that exist for SMEGAFRICA and KBC to work together in areas including education, youth empowerment, research, knowledge dissemination, digital transformation, capacity building, public-interest journalism and impactful storytelling.
Across Africa, significant research, educational achievements and community-based solutions continue to emerge from universities, institutions, businesses and young people. Yet many of these achievements remain largely unknown beyond their immediate environments.
Strategic media partnerships can help bridge this gap by transforming knowledge into accessible stories and creating platforms where ideas can reach the people and communities that need them most.
For SMEGAFRICA, its combination of The Scholar Africa magazine, Scholar Media Africa’s digital platform and conferences provides multiple avenues for discovering, developing and disseminating knowledge-driven stories.
For KBC, its broadcast reach provides an opportunity to take these stories beyond print and digital audiences and bring them directly into homes and communities across Kenya and beyond.
Kalekye noted the potential of such collaboration in advancing knowledge and youth empowerment.
“We see significant potential for collaboration in education, research, youth empowerment and knowledge dissemination. By working together, we can take important stories and ideas from institutions and communities and bring them to wider audiences through broadcast, print and digital platforms.”
Amplifying African Stories
The engagement also highlighted the power of storytelling in shaping Africa’s narrative.
Africa is home to millions of people developing innovative solutions, advancing education, building enterprises and transforming communities. Yet many of these stories remain underreported.
Through potential joint initiatives, SMEGAFRICA and KBC could create platforms that give greater visibility to educators, researchers, young people, entrepreneurs, institutions and changemakers contributing to Africa’s transformation.
Nyaanga described the complementary strengths of the two institutions as a significant opportunity.
“SMEGAFRICA comes with the strength of The Scholar Africa monthly magazine, our online platform, and our conferences that bring together leaders, scholars and changemakers. KBC brings the power and reach of broadcast. Together, we can create a stronger ecosystem for education, youth empowerment, knowledge and African storytelling.”
Such collaboration would strengthen the role of media not merely as a source of information, but as an enabler of knowledge, opportunity, empowerment and development.
From Conversation to Action
While the August 10 engagement was an important beginning, the real measure of its success will be in the initiatives that emerge from the discussions.
Nyaanga expressed optimism about the opportunities ahead, noting:
“I believe there are many areas where we at SMEGAFRICA can collaborate with KBC.”
He further described the engagement as the beginning of an important journey.
“Our vision is to move beyond a conversation and develop practical programmes that use print, online and broadcast media to inform, educate and empower society. This is the beginning of an important journey between SMEGAFRICA and KBC.”
For SMEGAFRICA, the engagement forms part of its broader commitment to establishing partnerships that bring together media, education, research, business, youth empowerment and leadership to address Africa’s development needs.
The potential partnership with KBC could therefore extend beyond content sharing to encompass joint television and radio programmes, magazine and digital features, research dissemination, conferences, knowledge initiatives, youth-focused programmes, expert interviews, documentaries and other mutually beneficial projects.
As Kenya and Africa navigate an increasingly knowledge-driven and digitally connected world, collaborations between media institutions can play a critical role in ensuring that valuable ideas do not remain confined to classrooms, research centres, institutions or boardrooms.
The SMEGAFRICA-KBC engagement therefore represents more than a courtesy call. It is the beginning of a conversation about how print, online and broadcast media can come together to inform society, empower young people, amplify African excellence and contribute to sustainable development.
The foundation has been laid. The conversation has begun. The journey starts now.
