West Mugirango Member of Parliament (MP) Vincent Kemosi has claimed that his support for Deputy President (DP) William Ruto is the reason behind the disruption of Friday’s event by administrators and police where he intended to disburse bursaries.
The bursary launch was supposed to take place in Rangenyo Primary school playground in Nyamaiya Ward, Nyamira South Sub County.
According to Nyamira South Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Mr. Julius Otieno, “all public gatherings are prohibited and this is no exception; we should not politicize anything even when one wants to break the law in open day light. We expect him (Kemosi) to lead by example because he knows the consequences of breaking laws.”
Addressing journalists from his residence, Kemosi termed the cancellation of the event as witch hunt, linking it to his support for DP Ruto’s next year (2022) presidential ambition.
He said that he was barred from meeting his people even after meeting the laid down protocols, while his other colleagues in the same county were allowed to hold public gatherings.
“Today’s turn of events has nothing to do with corona virus prevention, its pure witch hunt and everyone can clearly see that am being choked for my strong support of the DP’s ambitions. We have seen other MPs hold public gatherings across Nyamira but it is a crime if Kemosi holds one to help our children with school fees,” said Kemosi.
Kemosi, who is DP Ruto’s point man from the county, disputed claims that the cancellation of yesterday’s event was due to a member registration exercise, to the newly formed United Democratic Alliance Party (UDA), which was allegedly taking place at the same venue.
The MP claimed that Interior CS Fred Matiang’i was behind woes facing Gusii leaders supporting William Ruto.
“The DCC told me that I should request permission from the Interior CS so as to hold the event. Until when will he (Matiang’i) stifle those with divergent opinions?
He has a PhD and therefore he should not kill the careers and ambitions of the young children by ordering the call-off of the event. Whether it means standing on the waters to launch the bursaries, so be it. Our children must learn,” said Kemosi.
He later launched the KSH.34 million National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) bursary at the CDF hall.
Over 6,000 students in both secondary schools and higher institutions are set to benefit from the fund.
