Students in secondary schools in Kenya will have a mid-term break between November 19-23, 2021.

The three day break comes as many schools fall victim of students unrest destroying infrastructure and threatening life.

The permanent secretary in the Ministry of Education Dr. Julius Jwan’s communication to the county directors of Education on November 1, 2021 seems to be a move to arrest havoc in secondary schools.

Unrest in schools caught the nation’s eye as students’ lives were threatened following the outbreak of fire that burnt a section of Buruburu Girls’ dormitory and students were trying to escape through windows.

On Monday, The Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET)’s Chairperson Omboko Milemba asked the ministry to consider having a mid-term break for students as a measure to contain the heated wave of unrest in schools.

Previously, the government said there won’t be mid-term break in a move to recover the lost six months ‘Covid-19 holiday’ when students were at home.

Upon reporting back to school after the mid-term break, the second term will run to December 23, 2021 before commencing the third term on January 3, 2022.
