A former Kenya Power employee was allegedly killed by an electricity pole in Nyamira on Thursday.

It is suspected that Duke Mirianyi, 34, was with other people when they stole the pole in Kenyerere village, Kebirigo Sub location, Nyamira South Sub County.

Area Chief Robert Maoga said Miranyi, a father of two worked with the power distribution company before his service was terminated under unclear circumstances. His body was discovered Friday morning.

The pole had smashed his head.

Maoga said that the pole theft was the second incident of the kind in a span of one week.

“The deceased’s body was discovered yesterday morning lying on the road,” the chief told this writer on Saturday.

Maoga urged residents to guard government projects as they help the community.

“I call upon residents to protect whatever project the government has put in our villages to help grow our communities,” said Maoga.

Incidents of electricity theft have been on the rise across the country. The deceased’s body was taken to Nyamira County Referral Hospital Mortuary awaiting autopsy.
