The body of Caroline Kangogo, a police officer who died in unclear circumstances has undergone an autopsy.
Chief Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor conducted the autopsy at the Moi Teaching and Referral Eldoret (MTRH) Tuesday.
Dr Oduor said the officer died because of a single gun shot wound to the head.
“The bullet entered the body through the right chin and exited on the left side of the head…,” said Dr Oduor.
He said it was not easy to establish Kangogo shot herself or she was shot.
Dr Oduor said Kangogo’s death might have occurred at the scene, from the information he was furnished by investigation officers.
The body of Kangogo was found at their home in Anin, Elgeiyo Marakwet County, about two weeks ago.
Kangogo’s body was moved from Iten for the autopsy at MTRH at 10am today.
Dr Oduor said they had taken swaps from the hand to find out whether there were any residues.
“We have taken samples to the laboratories to further establish the manner of death; we shall be able to establish it when we receive the lab results,” added Dr Oduor.
There are three possible causes of deaths; accident, suicide or natural, the pathologist said.
The family of Kangogo had prepared for the burial which never happened on Saturday last week.
There was no pathologist at Iten to conduct the autopsy.
They were forced to postpone to the later unspecified date.
Kangogo had been on the run after she allegedly killed two men, including a colleague.
