Police in Nyamira are investigating an incident where a man allegedly killed his wife and committed suicide.
The incident left residents of Nyabomite village, Bogichora location, West Mugirango Constituency in shock.
George Asiba is alleged to have killed his wife Mary Asiba Tuesday night.
A note believed to have been authored by the man said he took the decision due to infidelity from his wife.
Asiba, an evangelist, said that his wife was engaged in an extramarital affair with a local politician eyeing a grassroots seat.
In the note seen by this reporter, Asiba noted that he was forced to take the ugly step after he realised that his wife had infected him with HIV/AIDS.
He said in the note that he could no longer withstand the shame of living with the deadly virus.
The note which was handwritten in Ekegusii was two pages long.
In the house, there was disorder indicating that there was commotion before the deaths occurred.
There were broken utensils and chairs in the two bedroom house.
The suspected suicide note lay on the table in the sitting room.
The body of Mary was lying on her bed with blood oozing from the mouth and nose, according to witnesses.
Asiba’s body dangled from the rafters of his permanent house.
A mosquito net strip was around his neck.
According to area chief Mr. Peter Ndirangu, the couple have never reported to him any marital issues.
He was shocked with the horrifying news of their death.
“I have known George and Mary for the longest time; we come from the same village. The two have never shown any signs of misunderstanding in their marriage before and I’m in utter shock that they had to end their lives in this ugly manner,” the chief said.
“We have seen what we believe is a suicide note written by the husband and police are going to establish whether it originated from him.”
He encouraged residents to always speak out their problems to counsellors to avoid such sad eventualities.
“No house has peace all the time. However, people should come out and get counselling to avoid such incidents,” he said.
A resident, Moraa Nyauma said that the couple have been evangelists who always nourished them with praise songs at their local church, Nyamira Central PAG.
She said that the two have never quarreled.
“We are shocked that they have been having issues in silence,” Nyauma said.
The bodies were moved to Nyamira County Referral Hospital mortuary awaiting autopsy.
