Over 2,000 youths drawn from Nyamira County have vowed to support the Azimio la Umoja’s Raila Odinga who is running for president.

The youths who converged at Viongozi Pastoral Centre in Kebirigo town Monday, noted that it was only Raila who meant well for the country and there was need to support his bid.

Led by ODM youth president John Ole Ketora, the youths promised to ensure that the former Prime Minister ascends to power in the August 9th polls.

Ketora asked youths across the nation to register as voters in their numbers.

“Your vote is the only weapon that can change the county’s leadership,” he said.

“We youths are the majority in the country and I urge all of us to ensure we are armed by registering as voters so that we liberate our country on August 9th by electing Raila as the 5th president of Kenya.”

Ketora went on: “Raila has a rich history of fighting for this country and it’s time he is rewarded to steer development and also implement his vision for a better Kenya.”

Chairperson of the women league Ms. Beth Syengo reiterated on the need of registering as voters.

He said this was the only way the youth and women can exercise their democratic right by voting in the upcoming general election.

Nyamira youth chairperson Dennis Marube chided the much hyped ANC leader Musalia Mudavidi’s ‘earthquake’ saying the event was only organized to benefit an individual and not the nation.

In the event, Mudavadi indicated that he would partner to form a pre-election pact with Deputy President William Ruto ahead of this year’s general election.

However, Marube noted that the partnership only mocked poor Kenyans who the DP had indicated earlier in his campaigns to partner with in making the next government.

“The DP wants to use and dump our people for his own selfish gains; he has clearly shown that he cannot be trusted with leadership,” Marube said.

The event also inaugurated a youth outfit dubbed ‘Young Captains for Raila’.

It is comprised of university students who will lead Raila campaigns in Nyanza region. Raila will be making his 5th and probably the final stab at the presidency.

However, Raila seems to be enjoying backing from the presidency and the Mt. Kenya region who have been his long-time political enemies.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has indicated that he supports Raila after they shook hands in 2018.

This seems to have angered DP Ruto who claims that Uhuru dishonored their memorandum of understanding where the president was to support him in this year’s elections.
