On Monday, June 12, 2023, professionals from various fields converged at Twin Towers, Kisii town, for the launch and grand opening of Ether Wellness Center.

The occasion heralded a new era of holistic well-being and self-discovery, which was achieved after a couple of months of developing an idea.

The event was graced by medical doctors from Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital, Dr. Mary Njuguna, a Psychiatrist and Kisii County Mental Health Focal Person, other mental health experts, scholars, and local community members.

Donah Ong’uti, a Senior Physiotherapist at Kisii County, is the Founder and CEO of Ether Wellness Center.

The Co-founder is Jairus Kibagendi, a Psychologist and Founder & Executive Director, A Milion Hugs, a mental health organization.

Idea behind Ether Wellness

In this modern era, where stress and disconnection have become endemic, it stands as an oasis—a resplendent haven where individuals can reconnect with their mind, body, and spirit.

The visionaries behind this endeavor, who conceived the idea early this year, understand that true healing involves tending to every facet of our existence, transcending the confines of traditional healthcare.

“It was an idea that kept beckoning in my mind. I realized I had been autopiloting my life. Due to this, I decided to go for a parental training which made me understand how to handle emotions,” said Ms Ong’uti.

“It is through calmness and creativity that have resulted to the birth of Ether Wellness Centre. It will be about soul, body, mind and spirit to fulfill life’s meaning,” adds Ms Ong’uti.

Aim and services

Thus, Ether Wellness Center will meticulously curate a suite of services that will synergistically work together, nourishing individuals.

With a diverse range of services, the facility promises to be a sanctuary for individuals seeking respite from the fast-paced modern world.

One of the core offerings at the center will be yoga, a practice known for its physical, mental, and spiritual benefits.

Guided by experienced instructors, those seeking such services will engage in a series of gentle movements, breathworks, and meditation techniques.

This ancient discipline will provide an opportunity to reconnect with one’s body, foster inner peace, and develop resilience in the face of life’s challenges.

“You become creative and calm when you have a habit of yoga,” adds Ms. Ong’uti.

Counseling services at the center will complement the physical practices, providing individuals with professional guidance and support on their paths to self-discovery.

Trained counselors will offer a safe and confidential space for people to explore their emotions, fears, and aspirations.

Whether it is overcoming personal struggles, managing relationships, or finding purpose in life, the center aims to empower individuals to navigate the complexities of their inner worlds.

Meditation, another cornerstone service at the center, will allow individuals to cultivate mindfulness and tap into the depths of their consciousness.

In a dedicated meditation hall, participants will be guided through various techniques to quiet the mind, find stillness, and develop a heightened sense of self-awareness.

In a society dominated by constant distractions and information overload, this practice will serve as a powerful antidote, allowing individuals to recenter themselves and gain a clearer perspective on their lives.

There will be a testament to the transformative power of this ancient practice.

Nurturing mental, emotional wellness

This is the act of having people who have been mentally and emotionally disturbed so that they may calm down and come back to normal senses.

It is done majorly through advising the victimized people.

It is important because, through this habit, emotions that make people downplay themselves, leading them to make decisions that may impact them negatively, are calmed down, making the affected gain and continue with their mundane routine.

The ceremony featured testimonials from individuals whose lives had been positively impacted by the services before the launch.

Stories of personal growth, healing, and renewed purpose echoed throughout the event, leaving an indelible impression on the audience.

It became evident that this facility will be a beacon of hope for those seeking to embark on a journey of self-exploration and holistic well-being.

“Personally, I’m an advocate of mental health. I’ve contributed greatly to society by majorly nurturing the psychologically and mentally disturbed people through taking them to my home to create awareness their well-being,” said Caren Nyansarora, the founder’s mother.

She says she advised her daughter to start a hospital or a pharmacy so that her dreams may be fulfilled. I’m happy she has done what was in my mind,” she explains.

People will discover their worth, love themselves and have high self-esteem and self-awareness.

“You are so important and worthy; let nothing drive you to the point of killing yourself,” added Ms. Nyansarora.

She challenged the medics and stakeholders to build self-awareness for the old around Kisii County so that the old will be catered for, an old home for the old.

Dr. Njuguna pointed out that people should create awareness on mental health in the county to help determine mental issues to commemorate Mental Health Awareness.

To be better off, she urged the participants to give attention to their brains.

Wholesome experience

“In the facility, an array of complementary services, including massage, will be offered,” said Kibagendi.

Lessons on mental health and related matters will be offered to complement the services.

These practices will focus on mindfulness, breathing techniques, and gentle movements to promote mental clarity, stress reduction, and emotional well-being.

“The services will be offered at different prices according to the service that one requires,” adds Kibagendi.

This facility is a business idea that will open doors and create job opportunities for people who have experience in the aforesaid service.
